MUSIC and EMOTIONS in ITALY

MUSIC and EMOTIONS - secondary  school
The magic of music: can you feel  emotions?
Classes of Secondary School (student’s age 11-14)
Period: from  May to June
Teachers involved: italian, musical education.
Topic: sing national anthems
We met in the music room with the students and their teachers singing their national anthems. With no previous arrangement, but spontaneously, when the young musicians started with the first notes on their instruments, the group started to sing, someone hesitating, others more self-confident and loudly...wonderful emotions did we feel!
I watched around and could notice the joy in the eyes of the people in the classroom but also amazement, fulfillment. We had never met before but we felt close and happy.
The concert went on with the Big of music: everybody knows  Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Verdi, Puccini…. Let’s raise the Italian flag! Here melodrama was born, we can’t forget it!
For this project the students of secondary class 3 have worked on a poster on Chopin in honour to Poland with a presentation of Chopin in English.
On another poster, with the pictures of our young musicians of Rosa Govone, they described in English the emotions the students have proved during their school years at Rosa Govone.
We are grateful to Erasmus Project because it has given us the opportunity to experiment magical moments beyond the differences of languages, tasting the true essence of music.

SOCIAL MISSION TO MARS - A COOPERATIVE GAMES DURING THE TRANSNATIONAL MEETING IN MILAN- ITALY

Robotics, Astronomic geography and the scientific methodology

Fondazione IBM constantly works with Schools and Institutes to bring STEM disciplines to kids and young adults.
“Mission to Mars” (a rover on Mars soul) is a 10+ year project which aims to bring different disciplines like robotics, astronomical geography, mathematics, arts and images, technology and computer sciences to younger’s world.
Robotics is a engineering discipline which studies and develops methodologies to mimic the human work with a robot, the approach to this discipline is influenced also from humanistic and scientific philosophies.
patial Robotics develops technologies and methods for the use of robots outside the Earth's atmosphere has achieved useful results even in fields outside spatial research. Often, this knowledge is far from being accessible to the current world of our children.
With the "Mission on Mars" project, it is all about combining engineers' robots with the disciplines of the curriculum.
Any teaching taught in our classes should aim to make topics as close as possible to what can be observed and what can be experienced through one's own body or perceived with one's own senses.

THE MOOD METER

The MOOD METER experience in Italy

Class: 4B Primary School (student’s age 9 -10)
Teachers involved: italian, maths.
Date: may 2017

We describe an experience that we think with and for our students.
Our topic was discover if our emotions are the same color as mood meter register.
All students wrote an Italian text about two special events:
  • One week without our teacher (Erasmus Project –
transnational meeting in Romania 6-12 May)
  • First communion (catholic religion).
Some days later all the students read their texts and count and colour their emotions.
There are two students that have to add some emotions, because in their texts they forgot to write about them.
All students try to color their emotions using a colour that they feel.
Our results show us that 27 emotions correspond to the Mood Meter, while only 5 don’t.

HOW ARE YOU FEELING TODAY? THE MOOD METER EXPERIENCE or HOW WE DEAL WITH THE EMOTIONS IN SLOVAKIA

Why should we study the emotional aspect of the children in the classroom? The answer is easy. Imagine yourselves having the bad day and working, e.g. something terrible has happened before, maybe you had a headache or stomachache. An adult who works hard is able to adapt his own pace to actual feelings. But what about the child, the school and the emotions? Is there any possibility for student to express his/ her own actual feelings? Can the student adopt his/ her pace of work without being denied anything?
Emotional intelligence is an issue that is concerned not only in Slovakia but all around the world. Many teachers try to enhance effect and quality of emotional teaching process. Each class deals with the emotions in some different way. It depends not only on teachers but students, too. Why? Because everyone is different and we, as teachers need to find the way how to work with the emotions in a certain way to reach success. It is essential not to look at the student as robot but human being. The teachers should know the students as good as possible, that is why the certain mechanism of eliciting emotions must be known for all of them.
Individual teachers of our school have decided to measure the emotional aspect of the students when entering the classroom to prevent the teacher´s inadequate behaviour towards the student, and so trying to respect actual emotional state of the child and his current performance.

We would like to offer a few ideas of how to “measure” student´s emotions or feelings:
1.  1. Mood Meter
The smiles with different types of emotions are hanged on a string next to the door. When the student enters the classroom, he/ she clips on the peg with his/ her name to the emotion that mirrors his/ her feelings.

LIFE SKILLS TRAINING

Life Skills Training

Secondary School "Govone"
Activity: Life Skills Training
Class: 1A-2A (students’ age: 11-13)
Term: December to April (20 lessons each class)
Teachers involved: Italian, English, P.E.

The activity, LifeSkills Training, is aimed to prevent the young from the use and the abuse of substances such as alcohol, drugs and tobacco. It also implies helping the students improve relationship and prevent them from  misbehavior like violent attitudes and bullying, developing emotional skills.
In order to achieve that, some units of the activities have dealt with emotional skills, for instance, handling anger and managing anxiety.
The target of Life Skills is giving the pupils involved in the poject the ability to face the matters they may encounter during their growing up. Particularly the Life Slkills training project is going to reinforce their own self-esteem helping them to make friends, to manage with rage and conflicts and to be able to assert
During the task, discussions and behavioral simulations have been allowed besides the teacher’s intervention, when necessary, and individual homework.

Boys and girls have had the opportunity to know their own emotional reactions in different situations (with their pairs, their families, schoolmates and teachers) and they have also had the chance to manage with them in the best way under  the supervision of the adults and learning to be respectful of objects and people.

PSICOMOTRICITY EDUCATION

 Psicomotricity Education

Primary School "Confalonieri"
Project "The discovery of emotions"
Classes Involved: 5 Second Classes (students age: 7)
Hours for each class: 10 hours
Total hours: 50 hours
Period: February / May
Expert: Raffaella Trombetta - Relational Psychomotricist with Integrated Training.

The "Discovering Emotions" project is currently underway in our Primary (second class): all students held 5 hours each.
It is born to highlight the emotional variables naturally present in the educational process of each child and therefore also in the school context. It will therefore be essential to promote an integral development of the child, which takes into account not only the intellectual dimension but also the emotional dimension, creating the premises to be good with oneself, in the peers' group, in school and beyond.
It presents the four fundamental emotions (happiness, sadness, anger and fear) through the following methodology: body games with particular attention to “no-verbal” language; using illustrated stories; sing music in an evocative form; realization of graphic-pictorial elaborations.

A "journey" to discovering oneself through their own emotions to know, understand, accept and transform them, but also to know, understand, own accept, and own transform.

Tools

Through individual courses, the expert showed us some interesting tools that are very helpful in development of emotions in the educational process.

Story cubes is a dice game which is based on classic dice but not covered by dots from 1 to 6 but pictures. It is very interesting game that could be used in English or another language lesson. Students work with each other, cooperate and use their imagination. Once upon a timeJ

Colourful squeaky toys- students can use them in expressing their emotions.

Emotions in the class

Bear in classes at the hour of the Slovak language - literature.

Students was talking to the bear which they named Fredy two what they was reading about at the hour of the literature because Fredy could not read. Pupils used to like Fredy a lot. Each pupil was always greeted him, they always asked him how is he doing, they praised his clothing, his eyes, and then again they was gladly talking what they was reading about . Students talked very relaxed, with laugh, without thinking and with no stress. They did not respond to the teacher - authority, but to their friend.
